Reevaluation!

In a year our country will be celebrating the bicentenary of its war of Independence and the centenary of its Revolution. Yet while our government and an unconcerned minority plan on celebrating both of these historic events, for some of us, they are reminders of the growing distance between the current state of our nation and the one our forefathers intended for it. It was 199 years ago that Miguel Hidalgo declared our Independence from the strangling chains of Spanish oppression. As we draw near this 200 anniversary, we must realize that Mexico is still bound by those very same chains just from a different oppressor. The goals of our Independence and our Revolution have been, still are, and will continue to be betrayed by those who have been corrupted by the power Mexican people have entrusted to them. This neglected ill has deviously crippled our nation's righteous spirit and savagely mutilated it. In modern Mexico, the few have prospered at the expense of the many; they have gained while the common men have lost. The growing gap between the nation's wealthy and poor is evidence of the country's deviation from its intended path, its moral code, and, simply, the people's interest. The rising drug-related violence portray the government's inability to deal with it. Insecurity plagues our country's streets, while food escapes our children's mouths. As our countrymen leave in search of better lives, the government tries to hide the problems we face. Diseases are ramping, always affecting only the poor. The lack of education is prevalent among the communities in most need. Despite all these things, the Mexican government points to the rising income of the already-rich as evidence of (unjust) prosperity; they see cause for celebration. Dissent shines a light upon the unseen and magnifies the voices of the unheard. Let us be the holders of the light. We see cause for dissent!
Por igualdad y prosperidad, Viva Mexico!
